Dear Members and Industry Supporters,
In the past three months, UAE health authorities and leadership have achieved the consolidated management of over 9 million people; whereas, residents in the country have appropriately reciprocated with a sense of shared responsibility to protect vulnerable members of the population. The effort and sacrifices that have been made are paying off as recent developments in the UAE are enabling hope that sectors can resume a level of normalcy that reignites the economy, and in turn supports the local society.
With positive news on the horizon, the Council has also noted a rising interest in its programs and events, evidenced by the growth in followers on our social media channels and the first-hand engagement with the industry members. This growth can also be attributed to our increasing online presence and educational deliverables which have been well-received by the local and regional industry. We look forward to increasing this growing attention by providing relevant content to our members and in turn the larger sustainability industry.
This month also marks the debut of the online Building Retrofit Training Program. The step to livestream the training is another example of EmiratesGBC’s commitment to further enhance its platform and showcase resiliency. Sustainability is an important topic and cannot take a backseat as climate change becomes more urgently apparent. For the Council this means a renewed increase in our efforts to create awareness and impart knowledge of sustainable building best-practices. Last month we introduced to the UAE market a new online tool, the Bionova Planetary, which enables several sectors to account for the embodied carbon in their operations. We also participated in the MENA Regional Green Building Congress, speaking alongside experts on the topic of net zero buildings, healthy buildings and sustainable reconstruction.
This month, I am excited to announce the year’s MENA Green Building Awards. The 2020 awards will recognize #17categories of professional awards, showcasing – for the UAE, MENA and a global audience – the exceptional leadership and innovative prowess found in the MENA region. I encourage all industry leaders and innovators to take advantage of the MENA Green Building Award’s fair and judicious platform and broadcast their innovative product or service.
Lastly, stay tuned for more exciting details about our upcoming Technical Workshops and if you are not signed up yet, please do so soon in order to receive event invites directly into your inbox.
I wish all our members, partners, and industry supporters a safe and successful month ahead.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ali Al Jassem
Chairman

EmiratesGBC Green Building Tooltips
“In addition to installing efficient fixtures, building owners can take a step further by installing a water management system, which can potentially save significant water as usage is linked directly to its source, which helps target reduction where needed and troubleshoots leakage. Water management system uses metering and submetering.”
The above is one of many useful tips available through the EmiratesGBC Green Building Tooltips. The Tooltips is an online platform serving to further educate the industry and community on simple green building practices. The interactive designs cover three different building typologies, showcasing home, school and office buildings. The initiative is powered by BASF and Rain Bird and is supported by Taqati.
