A Letter from EGBC Family

Dear Members and Industry Supporters,

Last month commenced with a series of two successful EmiratesGBC green building tours; the recently certified LEED Gold University of Dubai and recently opened multi-use Dubai Opera, both of which are testimony to the achievements of the UAE in the built environment.

EmiratesGBC has also entered 2017 with a series of projects, including the 2017 MENA Green Building Awards which will be celebrated on 17 May in a Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony at Roda Al Murooj Hotel, Dubai.  We would like to commend all those who have applied, as the initiatives shown are indicative of the progress being made within the Green Building Industry. We eagerly look forward to celebrating the pioneering sustainable building achievements in the region and wishing all applicants the best of luck.  We hope that you will join us by registering to attend the Gala event in May.

As announced at the end of last year, EmiratesGBC is partnering with Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) to achieve the goals of the Building Efficiency Accelerator (BEA), one of six accelerators under the United Nations Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) which aims to globally improve energy efficiency in buildings. As part of Dubai’s commitment to this initiative, EmiratesGBC and DSCE are collaborating to benchmark building energy performance in key sectors.  We are pleased to invite Dubai Hotels, Dubai Shopping Malls and Dubai Schools to participate in this crucial project and encourage you to reach out to the EmiratesGBC office to get involved.

Another integral project under the Council’s roster for 2017 is the EmiratesGBC Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (nZEBs) Study, a project that aims to publish a statistical and analytical report to define nZEBs in the UAE which can be used as a reference to support future building regulations. The study findings will be released during the World Green Building Week in September 2017 aligning with the week’s focus on Zero Energy Buildings.

I encourage you to please take the time to visit the EmiratesGBC website for more details on our programs and find out how you can become actively engaged in driving the green building movement in the UAE; whether it be through technical input, data provision or sponsorship support. I also urge you to take the time to visit our events page for upcoming seminars, workshops, tours in order to be the first to participate in the EmiratesGBC’s capacity building activities.

Sincerely,

Saeed Al Abbar
