A Letter from EGBC Family

Dear Members and Industry Supporters,

EmiratesGBC commenced the new year at the Energy Efficiency Expo in Abu Dhabi last month. As a founding Knowledge Partner of the Expo, we invited our members to exhibit with us under the EmiratesGBC Pavilion. I would like to extend thanks to EmiratesGBC Corporate Members Caparol, Fujairah Rockwool, Gerab Energy Systems and Building Doctor for exhibiting with the EmiratesGBC Pavilion at the Energy Efficiency Expo.

At the Energy Efficiency Expo, EmiratesGBC hosted a Tech Talk on its Building Retrofit Training (BRT) Programme. Building retrofit is an integral part of the UAE’s commitment to managing energy use efficiency and conserving our resources. Through the Tech Talk, we were able to put the spotlight on our BRT Programme, which is planned for launch before mid-year and aims to support federal and local government mandates with regards to improved energy efficiency in existing as well as new buildings in the UAE.

Looking ahead, we are building up momentum to the 2017 MENA Green Building Awards, which are supported by the World Green Building Council, in partnership with LebanonGBC and JordanGBC and under the auditing of KPMG.  The Awards form part of our ongoing commitment to showcase best practices and achievements within the built environment of the Middle East and North Africa.  We encourage submissions from companies and projects throughout the region.  We also strongly encourage and invite our members to sponsor this flagship event, as it is with thanks to your past support that EmiratesGBC has been able to build on the success of its Awards program and rebrand the Awards to the MENA Green Building Awards in its fifth cycle to better encompass the event’s regional scope. We are eagerly looking forward to celebrating the pioneering sustainable building achievements in the region at our Awards gala, which will be held on 17 May 2017 in Murooj Downtown Hotel, Dubai.

UAE-based students are also invited to showcase their research achievements by applying under the Dr. Owainati Student Excellence Award.  The submission period for the Awards is open from 1 December 2016 to 16 February 2017.

I encourage you to please take the time to visit the EmiratesGBC website for more details on the Awards as well as all our eventssponsorship opportunities and programmes for 2017.

Sincerely,

Saeed Al Abbar

Building Retrofit Training (BRT) Tech Talks

What is building retrofit and what does it entail? On January 16h-17th and during the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) Energy Efficiency Expo 2017, EmiratesGBC held Tech Talks as a teaser to the official Building Retrofit Training (BRT) launch, to answer this question. EmiratesGBC Technical Workshops

EmiratesGBC’s monthly Technical Workshops started off the new year with a comparative analysis of Predictive Maintenance (PdM) techniques. With the co-facilitation of Haris Al Afaq LLC, the workshop discussions centred around advantages of predictive maintenance over reactive and preventive maintenance.  Next month, on February 14th, we will look at how various insulation measures applied to new and existing buildings in the UAE can offer potentially the single most effective building efficiency strategy.

EmiratesGBC Technical Workshops are free to members and partners. Spaces are limited so reserve your seat early by emailing us at technicalworkshops@emiratesgbc.org

Are you an EmiratesGBC member or partner and would like to facilitate a workshop? Do you have any suggestions for topics to be addressed? If yes, then we’d like to hear from you. Please send an email to technicalworkshops@emiratesgbc.org.
