Dear Members and Industry Supporters,
Looking back at the highlights of last month, I would like to first thank all our board members who attended the Council’s quarterly board meeting held on June 2nd. A month later on July 2nd, EmiratesGBC marked the 10th Anniversary of its inaugural board meeting, which was held on July 2nd 2006 at Park Hyatt Dubai.
In the past decade, EmiratesGBC has established itself as the leading forum promoting sustainable urban growth in the UAE as well as the MENA region. The Council has stayed close to its membership, strongly connected to both the challenges and opportunities presented within the UAE, and has set ambitious goals and achieved new milestones based on its industry and stakeholder connections, and we look forward to marking many more years of progress and sustainable growth.
Last month, the Council further exemplified its mission and goals by hosting a seminar held at DEWA, targeting the issue of indoor air quality in relation to the proliferation of VOCs. A panel of local and regional experts shared tried and tested strategies for protecting the quality of our indoor environments. Earlier this month, EmiratesGBC also had the honor of participating and presenting at the 8th session of the Municipalities Best Practices Forum held in Umm Al-Quwain. By speaking on the positive impact of near zero energy buildings to an esteemed audience of government leaders, the Council once again enabled discourse towards a future of highly efficient green buildings in the country.
Through strong collaborative relationships with the private, public and academic sectors, EmiratesGBC has made auspicious strides in the past ten years, many of which are outlined in our Impact Report titled Measuring Green Building Progress. We look forward to seeing what the next ten years will bring.
Finally, in the celebratory spirit of a decade’s worth of achievements, I would like to wish all of our Members, Partners and Supporters, a pleasant end to the month of Ramadan, and a joyous Eid holiday.
Eid Mubarak.
Best Regards,
Saeed Al Abbar

Hospitality Program Update
Our Hospitality Program is reaching great milestones. We have now completed the first draft of educative modules on Green Operations, dedicated to UAE Hospitality professionals.
The modules:
- Explore all relevant topics in an easy-to-understand way;
- Are beneficial to all professionals, irrespective of their level (management vs. staff) and knowledge of sustainability;
- Stimulate discussions and sharing of best practices;
- Are tailored to hotel needs, through a “menu of topics” they can pick from.
The modules will now go through peer-review from our volunteering members; this phase should be completed by the end of the summer with the objective to make the modules available to the hospitality industry by October.
