Dear Members and Industry Supporters,
Now moving well into the second quarter of 2015, May is looking to be a very busy and exciting month already. The activities of last month, which included several strategic meetings with government partners as well as participation in a number of industry events, has certainly built on the momentum of the Council in the first part of the year. Meetings were held this month between Emirates Green Building Council and Dubai Municipality, Ajman Tourism Department, and the Ministry of Public Works. During these meetings we shared thoughts and explored avenues for cooperation in order to strengthen green building practices in the UAE. The meeting with Ajman Tourism Department was a first step in cooperation to help develop a greener hospitality sector in the emirate and to share information on how hotels can reduce their ecological footprint. Last week I had the opportunity to moderate a breakout session on Greening Cities at the World Green Economy Summit. The summit took place in Dubai on April 22-23 alongside WETEX and built upon The Dubai Declaration, the long-term vision to develop Dubai into the ‘Capital of the Green Economy’. What was evident during the summit is that we are now at a very exciting time whereby sustainability technologies and approaches are proving to be more financially competitive than business as usual approaches. Although the summer heat has begun to set in, our events program is going strong and the next month is our busiest so far of the year. The EmiratesGBC 2015 Awards & Gala Dinner is quickly approaching. Wednesday May 13th promises to be a night of networking, entertainment, and most importantly, recognition of our regional leaders in sustainability. If you have not registered already, we encourage you to do so. We hope to also see you at the Hospitality Program Seminar (May 3), the technical workshop (May 19), and the Focus Day with Dubai Chamber of Commerce (end of May).
Best regards,
Saeed Al Abbar
Chairman

Moderated by Ali Al Suwaidi, MEFMA Board Member, esteemed panelists Sara Momtaz of Khidmah and Yousef Al Rousan of Advanced Facilities Management also discussed the need and means to integrate FM within the project’s early phases, while attendees stressed the need to educate the authorities to integrate FM in the standards and processes, and to raise awareness among owners, Special thanks to Advanced Facilities Management for sponsorship of the event.
