A Letter from EGBC Family

Dear EmiratesGBC Members and Partners,

In honour of the UAE’s Golden Jubilee and as 2022 begins, I would like to extend my warmest regards to all and best wishes for a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year.

In 2021, EmiratesGBC celebrated 15 years of working with our members to promote and achieve a more sustainable built environment in the UAE. The 10th Annual EmiratesGBC Congress reflected on the progress made over the past decade and a half and how we can move forward from green buildings to sustainable cities. Additionally, 2021 built on some of the challenges that we faced in 2020—namely, continuing to live through the COVID-19 pandemic and adjusting to it. However, perhaps the most notable development for the climate in 2021 was COP26. Important takeaways from COP26 include but are not limited to a pledge of $130 trillion dedicated fund to transforming the global economy into a net zero one, promises to phase out coal, and further commitments to reversing deforestation and addressing gender inequality.

In 2021, we celebrated the 50th year of the Union and the year of the UAE Vision 2021 which was launched by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, at the closing of a Cabinet meeting in 2010. In 2022, EmiratesGBC will continue to be at the forefront of sustainability in the built environment, contributing to the UAE’s sustainability vision. We look forward to fruitful collaborations with our members and partners to organize events, create programs, and publish important findings that will help advancing green building principles in  the UAE. We will be keen for you to join us on our mission, please consider joining our membership community and make sure you are signed up to our mailing list to be the first to know about our initiatives and how you can help.

We look forward to 2022 being a healthier and safer year for everyone.

Sincerely,

Dr. Ali Al Jassim

Chairman

Emirates Green Building Council

EmiratesGBC Programmes News & Updates

Net Zero Centre of Excellence

Our Net Zero Centre of Excellence was launched in 2018 as a think tank and accelerator to advance net zero carbon buildings in the UAE as part of its commitment to World Green Building Council’s Advancing Net Zero Project. We invite you to explore our website to see the work we are doing. We have also summarised our objectives and actions in the EmiratesGBC Snapshot.

As part of the building and construction industry, Emirates Green Building Council is requesting your professional input.

An Embodied Carbon Market Research survey has been created to assess the level of understanding, importance, and prevalence of Embodied Carbon in the construction industry in the UAE. It should take approximately 5 minutes of your time to complete. The results will feed into EmiratesGBC Embodied Carbon Working Group’s work.
Please answer this survey ONLY if you are working on Embodied Carbon in your projects/work in the UAE.
