EGBC celebrated the week with a number of activities across the UAE which included building tours, a community event, seminars & workshops. The hospitality industry, namely hotels, are considered as having one of the highest carbon footprint building types, due to their nature of full operation ready day mode or night, 365 days of the year, and the level of comfort and service expected of them. Many of these buildings are also providing F&B services through their kitchens which produce a large amount of food waste…. read more.
The EmiratesGBC has forged alliances and are working with the government bodies to standardize, which would provide for compatibility, interoperability, safety, repeatability, and quality in the field of building sustainability issues as part of the building sustainability committee within the Emirates Standards & Metrology Authority (ESMA). We are in urgent need to have approved standards in order to move forward with the UAE sustainability plans and its transformation into a green economy… read more.
Many buildings in the UAE have installed sophisticated Building Management Systems (BMS) but are not using them in a meaningful way, in fact many are abandoned and may be causing harm instead of benefit. These systems are connected to the electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems, access control, cctv etc., collect data from sensors installed in various parts of the building and are also able to control devices linked to them through computer software.
