February 8, 2012| press release

Dubai, UAE; February 8, 2012: Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC) highlights the importance of promoting energy efficient and sustainable built environments and its role in supporting the UAE’s vision of a ‘Green Economy for Sustainable Development,’ at the Middle East Electricity from February 7 to 9, 2012 at the Dubai International Convention Centre.

At its dedicated stand at Zabeel Hall, the Council puts the spotlight on the need to promote sustainable built environments by focusing on improving energy efficiency and managing carbon emissions. The Council’s representatives provide insights on initiatives that will enable both existing buildings and new developments to be more energy efficient.

Adnan Sharafi, Chairman of EmiratesGBC, said: “The Middle East region is witnessing tremendous growth in requirements for power and water, as well as a growing carbon footprint, underlining the need for exploring alternative energy sources and further strengthening energy use efficiency. With the region’s current emphasis on infrastructure development and backed by a growing population, it is imperative that energy efficiency measures are integrated into our built environments. The Middle East Electricity Exhibition serves as an ideal platform for us to share our insights on promoting sustainability.”

EmiratesGBC regularly takes part in key conferences and exhibitions to promote sustainable built environments. The Council hosts a dedicated forum, ‘Focus Day’ that discusses various concerns and topics associated with driving sustainability. The Council also hosts a series of initiatives that facilitates industry dialogue and provides educational resources and information on sustainable practices.

At the EmiratesGBC stand at the Middle East Electricity Exhibition, visitors can also apply for membership to the Council, which currently has over 260 members from both the public and private sector – all working towards a greener UAE.
