Emirates Green Building Council promotes dialogue on sustainability in future developments at ‘Focus Day’

Dubai, UAE; April 22, 2012: Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC), an organisation aimed at conserving the environment by strengthening and promoting green building practices in the UAE, will hold its dedicated ‘Focus Day’ on April 25, 2012 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

Held in conjunction with the World ecoConstruct 2012 from 10am to 5pm at the World ecoConstruct Summit Room, Hall 8, ADNEC, the Focus Day will discuss, ‘Constructing Buildings for a Sustainable Future’ in the UAE, with a particular focus on Abu Dhabi. Stakeholders from across the construction supply chain will attend the event to interact and share best practices.

The discussion panel will consist of representatives from government bodies in the capital. Abu Dhabi Department of Municipal Affairs will introduce the latest building codes and their importance for a sustainable city; Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council will discuss the evolution of Estidama, the building rating system, over the last year and provide an outlook on exemplar water usage within the built environment as well as material selection and compliance.

Adnan Sharafi, EmiratesGBC Chairman said: “The ‘Focus Day’ serves as a platform to bring together the various stakeholders working across different disciplines related to the construction industry, and the concerned authorities to promote sustainable built environments. The World ecoConstruct serves as a perfect platform for the Council to hold its Focus Day and network with suppliers, investors, developers and decision makers from across the Middle East..”

Developers, architects, suppliers, and contractors will have a chance to be part of the discussion during the Q&A session. Among the other topics to be discussed include: challenges faced in the use of different rating systems; innovative solutions for sustainable design and construction; sustainable products; and waste management strategies.
