  • Event to showcase xD Sustainability Manager (xDSM), a new software tool for LEED\Estidama rating application project management
  • xDSM is a collaborative web-based centralized managed repository that interfaces with The Future Build Portal to simplify sourcing of materials

Dubai, UAE; October 22, 2011: Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC), an independent forum aimed at conserving the environment by strengthening and promoting green building practices in the UAE, will host a networking event on October 24, 2011, from 6.30pm, at The Address Dubai Mall, Downtown Dubai.  The event, sponsored by Masdar City, will introduce a new project management tool that promotes sustainable development practices.

At the event, the guest speakers, Richard Reynolds, Manager- Supply Chain, Masdar City; and Douglas Langmead of Langmead Associates will introduce the xD Sustainability Manager (xDSM), a sustainability manager tool. A new software tool for LEED\Estidama rating application project management, xDSM is a collaborative web-based centralized managed repository that interfaces with The Future Build Portal, an initiative of Masdar City and an online sustainable materials and information portal launched in April.

Adnan Sharafi, Chairman of EmiratesGBC, said: “It is indeed encouraging to note how the newest advances in technology are being leveraged to promote sustainable built environments and in improving the process of design by appropriate selection. EmiratesGBC is committed to share the industry best practices, and our networking event will be a new learning experience for every participant.”

xDSM helps in identifying the requirements, submission documentation and credit status associated with green and sustainable building rating tools. By interfacing with The Future Build portal, it simplifies the sourcing of materials and products to credits, and speeds up the rating application process. It is estimated that up to 30% of time and cost can be saved by utilizing dedicated green building rating project management tools such as xDSM.

Mr Reynolds and Mr Langmead will share the story of the first six months of The Future Build Portal, covering how it is growing, its achievements, the challenges and future business plans. Mr Reynolds will present how the tool has helped Masdar’s initiative to save the Architecture, Engineering and Construction community while Mr Langmead will explain more about the collaborative web-based tool and its association with the project.

In addition to networking events for members and non-members held monthly, EmiratesGBC hosts and participates in multinational events, conferences and forums. The Council has developed a suite of activities including technical workshops, focus days and seminars and workshops on aspects related to the entire supply chain and green building concepts. Recently, EmiratesGBC opened its new office in Al Joud Centre on Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai.

EmiratesGBC is inviting corporates and individuals, who are dedicated to sustainable solutions and practices, to join them. Members in the Council gain significant benefits that include taking part in networking events and comprehensive programmes led by industry leaders as well as presenting on behalf of the Council in speaking engagements, in addition to a range of other benefits.
