Emirates Green Building Council highlights best practices in environmental sustainability at WETEX 2013

APRIL 13, 2013| press release

Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC), an independent forum aimed at conserving the environment by strengthening and promoting green building practices in the UAE, is highlighting best practices in developing and promoting sustainable built environments at the Water, Energy, Technology & Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2013 to be held from April 15 to 17 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

As part of an ongoing partnership with WETEX, EmiratesGBC is supporting the landmark initiative that aims at encouraging a culture of sustainable development by putting the spotlight on various aspects of green buildings. Representatives of the Council will share their expertise and insights on various aspects including energy and water use efficiency and eco-friendly practices at the event.

Adnan Sharafi, Chairman of EmiratesGBC, said: “Conserving water and energy resources is a key component in promoting sustainable growth, and in this green buildings have a central role to play by adopting innovative solutions, techniques and products from their construction stage and on an ongoing basis. It is now imperative that we regard buildings as not just brick-and-mortar structures but as key pillars in the sustainability chain. Through our participation at WETEX, we are highlighting the message of how built environments have a critical role to play in promoting overall sustainability.”

Sharafi will also take part in the Dubai Global Energy Forum, being held alongside WETEX, in a discussion on ‘Greening Existing Buildings.’ The Forum, organised by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, serves as a platform for energy leaders to discuss local and regional issues related to energy policies, trends, practices and challenges.

EmiratesGBC has more than 260 members representing all stakeholders in the building construction supply chain. EmiratesGBC regularly takes part in key conferences and exhibitions to promote sustainable built environments. The Council hosts a dedicated forum, ‘Focus Day’ that discusses various concerns and topics associated with driving sustainability. It also hosts a series of initiatives that facilitates industry dialogue and provides educational resources and information on sustainable practices.
