January 2018 saw global leaders and experts gathering in the United Arab Emirates for the World Future Energy Summit (WFES), taking place during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. EmiratesGBC was an active participant in the Summit and was proud to be the knowledge partner to the Energy Efficiency Expo at WFES.
I would like to begin by extending my best wishes for the New Year to all of our members and partners. It is your support and drive over the past eleven years that has enabled the Council to make very positive strides in position the United Arab Emirates as a global leader in sustainable urban development and I look forward to continuing to work with everyone in 2018.
As we enter the last month of 2017 and on the occasion of the 46th UAE National Day, I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to our new and long-standing members and partners for your continued effort and cooperation in our commitment to a sustainable built environment in the UAE.
November also marks an important milestone for the Council with the launch of the “State of our Schools Roundtable Discussion” taking place on November 19th, with the aim of producing the first of a series of white papers under the Global Coalition for Green Schools initiative. As a founding member of the Global Coalition, The Emirates Coalition for Green Schools aims to bring together the UAE’s strongest advocates of green schools, to create a national vision of healthy, high-performance schools that are safe and sustainable learning environments for our future generation.
Last month exemplified EmiratesGBC’s steadfast strides toward supporting the UAE to be a global leader in sustainable urban development by launching the UAE’s first ‘Nearly Zero Energy Buildings’ Report. Announced at an event supported by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce on September 27th, the analytical report is a significant milestone for the UAE
Not to be forgotten, the month of September also marks World Green Building Week taking place from 25 September to 1 October 2017. Organised by the WorldGBC and led by Green Building Councils, the week is an annual event created to empower the green building community. This year’s theme is #OurHeroIsZero …
Last month, EmiratesGBC was proud to launch the Building Retrofit Training (BRT) Programme, in partnership with Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Masdar of Abu Dhabi.
The BRT Programme is a first and only one of its kind initiative in the region that focuses on strengthening awareness and the skillsets of building industry stakeholders to enhance the energy efficiency of their existing and new projects.

Last month saw the launch of the EmiratesGBC Green Building Tooltips, a rich online resource which is a first and only one of its kind initiative in the region that provides valuable guidance and insights for building users and the industry to implement sustainability best practices. Supported by BASF and Legrand, this is another fantastic initiative from the Council to raise green building awareness in the region.
I would like to begin by wishing a Ramadan Kareem to all our Members, Partners and Supporters in the UAE and MENA Region. We are pleased to enter June 2017 with pride at the remarkable achievements in the industry that were recognised at the 2017 MENA Green Building Awards, which we honoured with our industry peers and partners on May 17th.
