BEA Benchmarking FAQs

The Building Efficiency Accelerator (BEA) Project is a global initiative led by World Resources Institute (WRI) and is one of six assessment tools under the UN program Sustainable Energy for All (SEforAll), which aims to double the global rate of building energy efficiency by 2030.

Marking its commitment to building efficiency and sustainability, the city of Dubai has signed on its commitment to the BEA as the first in the Middle East. The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy is the BEA City Representative and EmiratesGBC is the appointed BEA City Liaison.

Benchmarking, in the case of building performance, is a method of evaluating the energy and water performance of a building over time and comparing it to similar buildings or past data. It is a very useful practice as it allows building owners to assess and understand their energy and water performance, and ultimately identify the conservation measures and opportunities for improvement.

EmiratesGBC will provide tailored performance scorecards for all participating properties. This will allow your property to compare its performance against other participating properties as well as against the city average.

If you are a building owner or operator, you can participate by filling out the BEA Benchmarking Questionnaire for your property. Completing the questionnaire should not take more than 15 minutes (provided you have all the necessary data on hand). Please watch the tutorial video on filling the questionnaire.

If you would like to participate, please contact the EmiratesGBC BEA team at

All data and information provided to EmiratesGBC is secured and will be treated with strict confidentiality.

Yes, you can submit data for multiple properties by filling out a separate questionnaire for each individual property.

The BEA Benchmarking project does not involve energy or water audits. However, if you are interested in an audit for your property, we encourage you to visit our Energy Efficiency Program (EEP) Database and contact companies listed that provide the services you require.

Yes, participation in the BEA Benchmarking is free of cost.
